Laser South #2
USNA
Sep 26-27
FINAL RESULTS
REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday started out with the wind blowing out of the southeast at 15 knots.
Skies were partly cloudy early, but became fully cloudy as the day
progressed and a steady rain was falling by the time we were done for the
day. We set a course in the Severn River right off the Crown Center and ran
six races before a break for lunch. After lunch, the wind was a little
lighter - about 12 knots and four more races were completed, making ten for
the day. The racing was close all day, and tomorrow's conclusion should
prove interesting. One redress request was heard and BKD was awarded.
We arrived on Sunday in a pouring rain storm that cleared up just in time
for the competitors to begin rigging. Te wind was light out of the south
and the Race Committee set a course in N cove near the mouth of the Severn
River. The wind shifted right during the first few races until it settled
in out of the West at 4-8 knots. The big shifts and puffs kept the fleet on
its toes and 6 races were sailed to complete the regatta. One umpire
initiated Rule 42 penalty was issued on the water. Thanks to Rick Sullivan
and Herb Larrabee for serving as judges and to LT Ted Huebner and his team
of Midshipmen for running quality races. Congratulations to Georgetown's
Evan Aras, SMC's Jesse Kirkland, Navy's Al Ravelo and old Dominion's Colin
Leon for qualifying to compete in the Carl Van Duyne MAISA Men's
Singlehanded Championship at King's Point on October 10-11.
