The MapGuide operations for creating a data store are somewhat limited.
It might work, but I don't think it will.

You can use FDO or manually create the data store, and then use it from MapGuide.

Yes, that can be done. The best starting point is the General Tasks markup example. It creates permanent SDF feature sources and layers on the fly. You can find it here:
