I think the reference is to the UseTrueColor setting in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MapInfo/MapInfo/Common, which should
be set to 1 for MapInfo to use full color resolution. You lose
transparency effects, but you also get rid of ratty pixelation of
plots.
