Dear Tim and List members

I am afraid I can't help with your question however I want to add to it!
I have some SHP files I want to read into MapInfo Professional that have
other extensions than the ones you mention and I was wondering if anyone
can explain these.

I know SHP contains geometry ( like MI MAP ) and that SHX is an index
that links the DBF to the SHP ( a bit like ID links DAT to MAP ) .
However several coverages that I have been sent contain

SBX
SBN

and

AIH
AIN

I have downloaded the ESRI white paper on SHP but this does not refer to
the above four extensions.

Also whats SHPs equivalent to IND? In other words how does an ArcView
User find a record. Can it use Foxpro or DBase indexes? I guess one or
more of the above could be an index on the DBF but which one(s)?

The Universal Translator imports these layers fine but presumably only
only uses the SHP,SHX and DBF.

Someone told me recently that ESRI UK have introduced a few extensions
to deal with indexing LandLine data - is this right or is the set of SHP
extensions universal?

Phew! What a lot of questions!

Also TIA.
