Much of the 1990 Census data (for all levels of geography) is available for free at http://www.FreeDemographics.com .  On Friday evening, the site will incorporate the Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal Data, which covers the PL 94-171 data and the 100% data (HSF) for the Dress rehearsal area of Sacramento,CA, Selected areas of South Carolina and the Menominee Indian Reservation in Wisconsin.  The 2000 data will be available for Census 2000 geographies (down to the block level) as well as for 1990 Census Block Group geographies.  This site will continue to offer Census data as it becomes available over the next 3 years.

Have fun with it is free!  The geocoding on the site is courtesy of MapInfo.

Subject: Re: MI The Census - No Demographics?

US Census Demographic data is based on the "long form," which is sent to about 1 out of 6 households, and ascribed to all households in a given area (block, block group, tract, etc.) One of those non-secrets that makes census data less reliable for some purposes, but no less marketable. I'm sure that the 2000 data will still be "free" in raw form.

I just filled out my 2000 census. Interestingly, it asked only about how many people, what race they were, and whether I owned my house.

There were no demographic questions. Is this true? Does this mean no free year 2000 demographics?
