Surfer is definitely a great program for gridding and contouring, and is
especially useful for min-ex work since it includes krigging and will
produce variograms. However, linking it to MapInfo is not straightforward,
since the old Surflink program no longer works with the latest versions of
Surfer and MI.
If you're planning on doing a lot of this type of thing, I'd suggest the
Geosoft Oasis package. It's probably more expensive, but it's also a much
more sophisticated and powerful tool. It can also export into MapInfo
format.

Surfer, a program produced by Golden Software, is pretty good for basic
surface modeling. Contouring, volumetrics and dem generation can be produced
via Surfer. A mbx exists somewhere that links Surfer to MapInfo for ease of
use. Most important, the cost of Surfer is consisderably less than VM
(approx. $500-600 US).

Hello,
I have a question about contouring.
I am using version 5.0 of MapInfo and I want to make some contour maps for
elevation and surface geochemistry etc.
Has this been incorporated in more recent versions of MapInfo?
Is there an add on program I should look at?
Is there a MapBasic program that does this?
Is there another program that does this well?
I have seen in the archives that vertical mapper does this. I was
wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with anything else?
