Andreas, Chris: One quick way around to this is to choose Map>Clear Custom
Labels. That will remove any changes made to the auto-labels and revert
everything back to it's default size and position as set up in the labelling
section of the Layer Control. Of course then you will have to pick up and
move the labels that require it once again - one of the drawbacks of the
MapInfo labelling system.
Hope that helps,
Jason

Andreas,

If you add the same layer again via your layer control and then run the auto
label it should work. Loosing the automatic labelling only affects the
layer within a map window and not the actual .tab file.

I have found that once you manually change a label then that object is no
longer available to automatic labelling via the layer control. Of course
you can re label it manually.

To guard against this I keep copies of workspaces or clone views of map
windows.

Regards
Chris
