Hi Alistair, We recently similarly had a machine that was extremely slow compared to other machines doing the same tasks. It puzzled us immensely, and nobody seemed to know the answer. Then someone bothered to check its virus checking measures, and it turned out the machine not only was doing triple virus checks but also in some instances was checking all file types instead of just programs. When optimized, i.e. by shutting down all unnecessary checking, the machine went back to normal working performance.
