You could look into the log file generated by UT. I can't remember the name of the file, but it should be in your temp folder and the name is something with UT and .log Or you could try the SHP2MIF converter at my website or the OGR based SHP<>MIF<>TAB converter. One of them may provide better information on the possible problems.
