As far as I remember MapInfo support GeoTiff not the Tiff World File (TWF). Are you 
sure you have done this before ? Maybe you used some tool ?

The projection is UTM - 1983, Zone 10, meters. But when I open the image it doesn't 
ask me about any of this info, it just wants me to click on the image to associate a 
lon/lat. For some reason MapInfo is not acknowledging that there is an associated TFW 
file.

Any ideas?

TFW files say NOTHING about the projection.  It just associates image pixel 
locations with real world coordinates.  Until you know the EXACT projection 
of the image, you can NOT properly register the image.
