Thanks for all of the replies; it seems as if there are a lot of GIS users out there with some kind of problem. It appears that the problem is greatly increased by the specific actions required for GIS use (click/drag, precision mouse use etc.) and is a greater issue than the usual keyboard/mouse strain caused by poor wrist support or inappropriate workstations. Worryingly, a lot of people seem to be just accepting the pain and discomfort. There are two people I know of who require surgery due to various ‘repetitive strain’ problems, not just Carpel Tunnel.

 

Apologies to anyone who finds this topic unacceptable.
