John we have a DeskJet 800 with the max amount of ram and hard disk

Print is usually a slow experience with our raster images (171 @  5km tiles (25mb each). The major time is taken in Mapinfo processing (ripping) the print.. once it get to the plotter its quick.

There are few selections I try to standardise to if printing Large raster plots

Under the File>Print>advanced> Output method. select print using EMF with all the very thing else is checked in this screen except use ROP method. This can be set to default if ok from within mapinfo using Map>preferences>output settings.

Under Colour (Color)>printed colour control - choose vivid clour... otherwise the royal blues are purple, grass green is bottle green, tans are chocolate... basically a couple of shades darker.

These two make the biggest difference for us. Hopefully 8.5 will better address printing needs, both in print times and quality, as this is the end product for many of our clients...

Hope this helps

Subject: [MI-L] MI - L HP DesignJet 800 and MapInfo Compatibility

Hello All,

Not wishing to come across to negatively but this is a pre-emptive email!!. We have just taken delivery of a HP Design Jet 800 plotter which I am planning to connect to our print server on Monday and I am expecting problems!

Has anyone got any experience of getting these printers to “talk” to MapInfo (we have version 8.0) any experience or warnings would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

John

BTW: Thanks to everyone who helped out with the stylistic tool on my last query worked great!
