Tony,
Hmmm. My MapBasic Users Guide, Chapter 3,
"Compiling and Linking Programs From the Command Line" just states:
Command line syntax for compilation:
mapbasic -D main.mb sub1.mb
Command line syntax for linking:
mapbasic -L tbproj.mbp
Your external editor just need to let you specify a command line with
currently
edited file as argument, and you're ready. Most do, I'm sure - pick the one
you find best.
I'm using the freeware PFEdit myself (http:
//www.lancs.ac.uk/people/cpaap/pfe/),
but it lacks the syntax highligting. Otherwise it's capable of almost
anything.
Or you may, as I also do, add the above commands to your Windows shortcut
menus
for the appropriate file types. Neat if you like working with
Explorer/Folders.

Lars Nielsen

Subject: MI Compiling MB code outside MB?
Can MB code be compiled outside MB?
Is anybody using text editors other than the standard MB to write code,
if so which ones. Can anybody recommend a good editor. It would be great
to be able to highlight IF THEN ELSE loops etc.
Cheers
Tony
