GSOC[1] is really fun, but it is also takes a lot of effort to pull off. I'd love to see us apply again, to have the chance of being a part of it.
To pull this off here are the things we need help with soon: * We need a 2011 wiki page structure set up like the 2010 one [2]. * We need people to post ideas to those pages for potential projects like [3]. * We need to write and submit an application like [4]. * We need to spread the word to students that the Mapnik project is planning on applying. * We need help keeping an eye on the timeline [5]. GSOC works by having a single "Organization Admin" that usually handles the above tasks. Last year this person was me. I would *love* if someone else was interested in being the admin, or fulfilling a least parts of the volunteer job. I would of course be available for any questions that come up. Indeed then I could focus on the key question of how potential projects could fit with current Mapnik 2.0 development status.
