Dear group,
i intend to use mapnik in my mapping application for visualization. Therefore i have two questions regarding issues which the website addresses quite unclear. Can i use Mapnik as a real time map renderer or is mapnik just intended to be a pre-renderer for building tiles like in openstreetmap? Where are the limitations of mapnik? I assume that i have to split large orthophoto into several pieces, but are there any mentionable limitations of mapnik? I want to build a city visualisation tool which can visualize statistical data of the city directly on the map. So the map data itself should be stay quite static, sometimes i want to show/hide map data, like streets. Currently we are using a commercial product, but we really want to use mapnik because of the beautiful rendering. And another thing is... are there any projects out there which are using mapnik in a desktop application? As i wanted to use mapnik in a c++-project i am searching for other similar projects, but for now, i have found only mapnik-viewer. Thanks in advance, Lukas
