Noli, if I recall correctly your problem has nothing to do Mapnik, postgis, osm2pgsql, or even TileMill. You were trying to set up a sample project of styles, right? opens-streets-style? I've just done a README pass on that project: https://github.com/mapbox/open-streets-style Perhaps you could try setting up the project again? A typo in the setup configuration is all that I can imagine explaining your blank maps. I cannot replicate any problems.
