Another way to handle this is to create two separate maps, one for Alaska
and one for Washington-Idaho-Oregon. Make identical themes on each one
(here is another example of where a themes template would be useful!) and
then place both maps on a single layout. This will allow you to get rid of
that annoying part of Canada in between, and possibly resize Alaska so
you'll have a niece looking output. Let me know if this needs
clarification.

Actually, you probably could Select Big A, Export it as geo text, Import it
back with some of Calipers Tools you just may be able to do it..
