Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html
Having implementing 10+ G.I.S. systems using
Maptitude and Gisdk Over the past 6 years. We developed a number of tools
to assist in data gathering, conversion, quality assurance, Inquiry,
presentation, reporting, backup etc. I'm a staunch
advocate of the Maptitude/Gisdk products but then
our perspective is a bit different from most people in that we can
create ANY tool that we percieve will help us. No approval is
required no budget to consider, no one to muck-up the plan no one to
critisize failed efforts.
If any of You folks create area coverages and
maintain them your bound to have had need to "start here" "procede in
this direction for this distance" . There is no way to mark that spot
then procede on to a next point etc. There is no way to split an area
into n pieces or offset an existing line by n feet
etc.
We also have
used Gps / Gis(battery operated) in the field (in a boat) and inventoryed the buoys for the state. Real
time data gathering and data base updating in the field is truly
powerfull.
Lately we used arial photos with
maptitude to reccord all the addressed in a city. That is an effective
method of data acquision. The presence of an address(point) label on
the roof proved the address had been recorded. Selecting any point
without an address stored highlighted missing addresses.
Perhaps most
importantly most G.I.S. products are not
designed for users to activate , ask for information and get it
in the form they desire. They are either lack data or a useful
interface. We have created an environment (within or above
or beside) Maptitude that is monolithic in nature.
The addin co-exists to make the user confortable and productive
instantly. If you would like to look at it click this

I am not trying to
sell any particular product but would appreciate feedback from ya'all on
percieved needs.
Thanks Larry
Teeters.
