Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html
I am working with Maptitude for the Web. its pretty simple - easy for me to
say as I usually think up the bright ideas and then turn them over to
someone who is really competent to implement. But I go by the moaning and
groaning I detect from that end of the building. AV stuff caused a lot
misery. its been pretty quite since we switched to Mapt 4.2 for the web.
When the app is up we'll let you know.
Having said all this, I am pretty convinced that the technology needs to
turn over a couple times before this mapping business gets really feasible
for ordinary human beings. its all too slow, although Maptitude seems to be
the fastest. I think the Internet pipe needs to be a lot bigger or the
emphasis needs to be put back on the client and not a server.
One thing I like about the Caliper folks is that they respond and listen. I
am sure the competition could give ... whatever ... if I have "suggestions"
or what have you, to make about their product. I go for friendly and helpful
any day compared to some of the alternatives. Whatever route you take you
are going to be going down another road in a year or so.

I'm using Maptitude for the Web. I chose it because it seemed to be best
option, both in terms of price and learning curve. I like it, but I also
struggle with it a little more than I expected that I would. Caliper
support has been terrific.
I still think I've made the right decision, despite challenges. I'll
probably have my app done in a few days (which I probably couldn't say
about ARC IMS!) and I'll probably be a raving Maptitude for the Web lover
when my project is actually done.
There's a web/GIS conference you'll probably want to get to in 2 weeks.
Probably huge ESRI marketing effort, there, as they are co-sponsors of the
project. Trust me, I'm too busy to find the conference info for you at the
moment. It's at Penn State.
