Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html
Dear Carl Chance:
The best way to get a prompt answer for installing Maptitude for the Web is to contact
directly Caliper tech support, at Tel: 617-527-8617 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Before testing a web application with Maptitude for the Web, you need to verify the
following:
1. Maptitude for the Web requires a web server installed on your computer.
The web server program is responsible for running the scripts that produce maps and
tables
using Maptitude for the Web. A web server program such as Microsoft Personal Web
Server or
Internet Information Server (IIS) must be installed and running on your computer.
Any user connected via a web browser to your computer
can view HTML documents produced by the web server software
installed on your computer. The web server software produces the HTML content
dynamically,
by running a script that calls Maptitude for the Web. Maptitude for the Web
is also running on your computer and does the actual work of producing page elements,
such as a map image file or a data table.
Maptitude for the Web scripts are located in subfolders of the web server's home
directory.
You need to verify that the web server home directory is correctly registered in
Maptitude
for the Web under the Edit-Preferences-Applications menu.
You also need to verify that the web server is running on your computer before
installing or testing Maptitude for the Web, and you should note what is the web server
home
directory (e.g, on my computer, the URL address http://localhost/ corresponds to the
home
directory
C:\inetpub\wwwroot).
For more information, please refer to Chapter 1: Introducing Maptitude for the Web in
the
Maptitude for the Web Supplemental User Guide, or in the Maptitude for the Web online
help accessible from the menu Help - Maptitude for the Web Help. Please contact Caliper
tech support
if you have additional questions.
2. The web server program must be able to communicate commands to Maptitude for the
Web:
The web server runs on your computer and sends commands to Maptitude for the Web
in order to produce maps and tables. The protocol that allows the web server to
communicate
to Maptitude for the Web is called DCOM.
If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you need to be logged in as
administrator
and you may need to verify the DCOM settings and security permissions listed in
Chapter 1
of the Maptitude for the Web Supplemental User Guide. The settings allow the web server
program to call functions of Maptitude for the Web.
For more information, please refer to Chapter 1: DCOM Settings and Security Permissions
on page 23 of the Supplemental Users' Guide, or in the online help of Maptitude for the
Web,
or contact Caliper tech support.
Best regards,
Giovanni Flammia
