Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html

Recall that last week I was trying to get my state's (WA) The National Land Cover Data (NLCD)  files into Maptitude.
http://edcwww.cr.usgs.gov/programs/lccp/ftpdownload.html  Maptitude dies when one doesn't have the correct header file. Caliper has fixed this problem in the new version of Maptitude (4.5), and in fact added value, looks like Caliper says it fixes some things if there are missing data.
Caliper notes that:
For WA the header file is:

- The NROWS, NCOLS, ULXMAP, and ULYMAP values are unique to each image, and

can be gotten from the readme file.

- The UL_LON/LAT and LR_LON/LAT values are the longitude and latitude of

the upper left and lower right corners of the image, which are not provided

in the readme file. TransCAD 4.0 and Maptitude 4.5 will compute them if

they are not included in the header.

The hdr file for WA is:

The following

should work as a .HDR file for Washington State: the file is NOT double spaced - why this happens in Outlook only
Redmond knows ... anyway it is:

BYTEORDER I

LAYOUT BIL

NROWS 14795

NCOLS 19975

NBANDS 1

NBITS 8

SKIPBYTES 0

ULXMAP -2144460

ULYMAP 3177720

XDIM 30

YDIM 30

PROJECTION ALBERS EQUAL AREA

DATUM NAD83

SPHEROID_NAME GRS 1980

MAP_UNITS METERS

UL_LON/LAT W 125,15,21.066 N 48,36,34.97

LR_LON/LAT W 116,6,15.152 N 46,7,1.33

PROJ_STD_PARALLEL_I N 29, 30, 00.000

PROJ_STD_PARALLEL_II N 45, 30, 00.000

PROJ_MERIDIAN W 96, 00, 0.000

ORIGIN_LAT N 23, 00, 0.000

This worked perfectly. Subsequently I was able to add
vector layers right on top. Very nice image.

All that remains is to understand what I am looking at on the screen in the bil layer.
