Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html Hello, To answer your main question right at the beginning, there are always advantages to upgrading. However, based on the description of the problem you're having, its unclear if upgrading will affect this in any way. >...I am using it to plot the positions of aerial photos I take in the >western Washington area. ... I would have liked to have >used OBDC but have had no luck there. A little thing like appending my >database is turning into a nightmare. I have to save as a text file and then >import into Excel, add a group of records then save as a .dbf. Actually >that's not working that well either. It's unclear from your description what, exactly, you're trying to do, or how you want to do it. Plotting points on a map and storing them as a database is very simple. Make a point **layer** out of your points; this stores them in a Maptitude database called a "Geographic File". You could start off by opening a table of your points in dBASE or text format, and using the "Locate-by-Coordinate" command, under the Tools menu to plot the points, and make a layer, and thereby a geographic file, out of the points. Then adding new points to the layer is no more difficult than using the Map-Editing tools (accessed by choosing the "Map-Editing" command from the Tools menu) to manually add new points simply by pointing and clicking. If you want to add new points by typing in their lat and lon values, this can be done simply opening the Dataview of your point layer, choosing the "Add Record" command from the Edit menu, or by clicking on the "Add Record" button on the top toolbar, and then simply typing the lat and lon right into the Dataview. I hope this helps to answer your question. If you'd like to give us more details about what you're trying to do exactly, we might be able to offer some alternatives. -Philip Villars Philip Villars (617) 527-4700 / 5113 FAX Manager of Technical Support Services Caliper Corporation 1172 Beacon St. Newton MA 02461 www: www.caliper.com !.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.! ______________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
