YOu could also do an EDIT-FILL with a FORMULA, the formula being the
conditional replacement.

For example, if you have a Field called "States" and want to replace "MA"
with "MASSACHUSETTS" you could do the following:

1.  Highlight the column in the dataview
2.  Choose "Fill" from the "Edit" menu
3.  Choose "Formula" as the fill method.
4.  In the "Enter a Condition" section, type the following

IF States="MA" then "MASSACHUSETTS" else States.

This will only replace the values that match your criteria.

Much clunkier than a built in "replace" function, but it works...
