To list members interested in the next release of US Census 2000 data...
According to my sources, the Bureau is scheduled to remove the public
information embargo on the demographic profile series (i.e. a one page
summary of general population characteristics available as PDF report or
.csv datafiles compressed in zip files) tomorrow (5/17/01 at 12:01 am)
morning. The PDF & data files to be released will be State totals,
city & county totals and census tract totals. To view a sample
of either the PDF-formatted report (one page of data, 8 pages of definitions)
or to download a sample data file, the URL for the data site is:
http://www2.census.gov/census_2000/datasets/demographic_profile/
The data files are in zip-compressed archive files (use PkZip, WinZip or GoZilla). The .csv file contains no column headers so users may want to print off at least the US Total .pdf report to see data descriptors....
(go to http://www2.census.gov/census_2000/datasets/demographic_profile/0_United_States/ and select the .pdf report for the US).
Or you can use the attached sample file which contains abbreviated column labels which I added for reference.
