Will,

Would a discuss thread to get a lazy consensus of finalists work?

Thanks,

So long as I have been around, the PMC has never voted to accept the vote of

all votes. If you feel we are ready for a vote, it should be sufficient to
open a [VOTE] thread on dev@ explaining the changes to the marketing and

To my eye, most of the "powered by" statements are too small. I like the weight
of #9, but wish it included the monkey. Maybe something along the lines of #8,
but with the font size for the "powered by" of #9 with the "powered by"
statement placed centered above the "apache cloudstack" emblem? I'm not a
designer or I'd mock something up to better visualize what's in my head. For
me, the monkey is part of our brand identity, and I'd hate to see it
subordinate in a logo program.

On the topic of the branding colors, I have not found any color guidelines for
marketing material (and I have looked). Is that because we don't have one, or
is it just because my google foo is weak?

While I agree the the "color" version is the most consistent with the current
branding, is there anything that says we can't use colors that better match the
context in which the graphics are used? If we do want to restrict the colors,
I think we should definitely think about creating a color guide which we all
use.

I ask because the graphic designer in me actually likes the dark blue version
in many cases. In addition to that, we will need to increase our marketing
activities going forward and having quality guidelines and resources will help
us present a cleaner and higher quality message.

I don't want to derail this conversation, but I thought it was relevant
considering Giles comments.

I think both 8 and 9 would be useful in different situations

So, if possible I’d suggest that we publish 7,8 and 9

I suggest that we only publish the blue versions of each as the colour is quite
intrinsic to the brand

I’m sure some people will disagree. If anybody does, shout in the next day or

I think that #4 and #5 are the least useful because Apache CloudStack is not
mentioned and the monkey alone does not have enough brand recognition in order
for those to effectively present the Apache CloudStack project (IMHO).

#6 and #7 are my favorite vertical versions. #8 and #9 are my favorite
horizontal versions. I think in some situations #1 will also be useful.

Hi Andre - welcome to the community - great to see you here and I look forward
to working with you and your colleagues

It's great news that you can dive straight in with this important work

I can't find the old thread on this, but in summary I think it stalled because
the cloudstack logo didn't fit nicely inside the "powered by" circle that Sally
references ( it resulted in the cloudstack logo being very small)

Maybe it could be made to work bu somebody with an eye for design. But as ilya
says, we don't have to stick with that design - it's not obligatory

Maybe best to come up with some ideas and post a link here

Also : I've always thought that it would be good to give some options that are
not just "powers by"

A few with words like "supporter of" and "contributor to" would be great

Subject: Supported by ACS logo

Dear all,

I am pretty new to CloudStack community and want to start my thread with a
short introduction.
I am working for BIT.Group GmbH and heading the area called “Cloud Services”.
There we are delivering Infrastructure Management Services to big customers
(mainly SAP) with a clear focus on open source technologies. That means we do
classical IT outsourcing specialized on implementing and operating
virtualization and OS layer with Experts / Administrators in Germany (Dresden)
and China (Shanghai).

Giving this background we started last year to build up an own “BIT.Cloud” and
decided to use Apache Cloud Stack and Ceph as focus technologies. Our
experiences with ACS are really good (clearly we find the one or the other
optimization potential ;-)), we had great interactions in the community already
and we decided to deepen our involvement. So hopefully you will hear now inputs
from our side quite more often and we especially want to increase the
CloudStack presence in the German speaking area.

What we currently miss is a kind of “supported by ACS” logo, because we want to
publish our Cloud offering with a clear statement of our focus technologies. I
heart that there were already discussions in the past, but somehow it did not
come to an end. Do you also see the need or in general would you support the
initiative to get such a logo?

In case most of you answer the question with yes, I see following main
questions:

• Would you use the cloud stack (word), the monkey logo or the
combination of both?
• Are there any legal restrictions which we have to consider (e.g. does
somebody has to approve this from ASF side?)
• Do you know why the initiative in the past did not succeed?
• Did someone in the past already created some drafts or similar?
• In case we have some logo proposals clearly some will like it and
some won’t. Will we start a voting procedure or how does this work usually?

Please excuse this maybe stupid questions, but as I initially wrote, I am quite
new to this ☺.

My wish would be, that everybody can use such a “supported by” logo in case he
wants to and I would offer to engage our designer, to prepare some design
proposals and share the results with you.

I am looking forward for a fruitful discussion and your feedback.

Thanks and best regards.
