Is it possible that this is caused by people who e.g. try to annotate a long list (>10000) of gene ids with GO annotation by looping over these ids and firing a query for every id separately? I've noticed that users of the biomaRt R package sometimes construct these loops although we strongly advice against it.

Steffen

Hi all,

The BioMart central service seems to have been down the last few days. Yesterday it came back on-line but when doing a query to read the central server registry gives:
http://www.biomart.org/biomart/martservice?type=registry

there have been problems with people hammering the central server with martservice requests. We are investigating how to solve this - probably IP banning I think.

I think the problem below is with the proxy - hopefully I will restart the server with the correct settings in a few minutes

thanks
Damian

The host is said to be web50-node4.ebi.ac.uk but this is not accessible.
Any idea what is happening or how we can access the web services again?

best,
