Akselrod herself, like her opponent, Deborin, was
trained as a professional philosopher, but most
of the other mechanists were scientists.  

K.A. Timiriazev was a distinguished biologist, who had
a research center named after him by order of Lenin.
Stepanov was a mathematician who also had a
background in physics. I think the majority were either
physicists or chemists.
