My point is that comments of that nature suggest that sympathy with the trans community is often lip-service. If this speaker understood that her comment excluded trans people -- in addition to the fact that it's an absolutely ridiculous argument for someone to invoke their gender identity in order to make a point about abortion rights -- then why did she go ahead and make it? Sounds cheap. I agree with you re: white (and, honestly, non-white) activists and identity issues. There is a significant amount of deference among liberals of all stripes toward token members of marginalized communities, the effect being that the loudest and, usually, wealthiest members of a given community are able to magnify their voices at the expense of the worse off members of the same community. This is doubly convenient, because bourgeois members of marginalized communities usually have the most reactionary and pandery politics, so liberals who are either clueless or hostile towards the interests of the marginalized group are usually quite satisfied with this arrangement.
