Asia to Gaza Caravan seen off by hundreds of Syrians and Palestinian Refugees
at Damascus

Press Release 25 December, Delhi:
Asia to Gaza Caravan seen off by hundreds of Syrians and Palestinian Refugees
at Damascus

The Palestine Solidarity Caravan has now traveled from Rajghat in Delhi,
through Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Lebanon and Syria. It is now waiting to board a
ship at the port town of Latakia in Syria for the port of Al Arish in Egypt
from where it aims to take the Rafah border crossing to deliver aid to people
in besieged Gaza Strip.

At Damascus hundreds of Syrians and Palestinian refugees attended the colourful
send off programme organised for the Asia to Gaza caravan. All Palestinian
parties, groups and factions led by Khalid Abd al-Majid of the Palestinian
Popular Struggle Front (PPSF) were present. Speaking at the meeting Majid
congratulated the caravan and said that, ‘since the time of Gamal Abdel Nasser,
this caravan is the first effort that marks the unity of all Asian people as an
important advance in the Palestinian resistance’. Abd al-Majid’s PPSF operates
in exile from Syria. The caravan was also welcomed by Khaled Meshaal, the
political leader of the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas, as well as
Ramadan Abdullah, the leader of the Palestinian group of Islamic Jihad. “We
really appreciate your effort to keep this momentum and to follow up your
work,” Abdullah said. A seven-member delegation of Iranian legislators joined
the caravan in Damascus.

At the port town of Latakia the caravan was received by several thousands of
people. It was welcomed by a school band playing the Internationale.
