Reagan was a corrupt B movie actor who used the Screen Actors' Guild to advance his career. He hoped that by selling out the great 1946 Hollywood studio strike when he was SAG President Jack Warner would reward him by making him an A movie star. Warner stabbed him in the back (or at least Reagan thought so).
Reagan's new wife, Nancy Davis, connected him with right wing Southern California business circles, and the mafia, who helped him build a new career in Las Vegas and then as the "host" of GE theater. His real job was to tour GE plants on a speaking tour trying to decertify the United Electrical Workers and replace it with the right wing AFL IUE. >From GE union busting to a career in California Republican Party politics was >a short, lucrative, and corrupt step towards the presidency.
