A false dualism has been allowed to take hold: lockdowns versus jobs. With a Universal Basic Income or a Job Guarantee this dualism is dissolved. But we have neoliberals in charge of us in Australia and the Treasurer, Josh Frydenburg, in particular is prone to Thatcher and Reagan Dreaming. He is forced to provide public money to stave off total collapse but he longs for the moment he can make the DEBT the target of public policy and impose spending cuts,
In the meantime his efforts at spending to save us all, remind me of Dr Johnson's famous dictum about dogs walking on their hind legs. "It is not well done but you are surprised to see it done at all". ae Gary On Sat, Nov 14, 2020 at 4:04 PM Omar Hassan <[email protected]> wrote: > I wrote this reflecting mostly on the situation in Australia, where the > right have been attacking lockdowns as economically damaging etc. It seems > to me in Europe and the US the left has been remarkably hesitant to > campaign for a policy that puts people before profit.
