I agree with what Reimann/Oakland Socialist said in this eloquent and thoughtful piece.
It does look as if for now Trump has decided to remain a Republican and fight for control of the Republican Party. I think Reimann is right about impeachment being DOA in the Senate. These two facts suggest that the old stonewall obstructionist Republican front in Congress may not fracture immediately and that Biden may face unified opposition not only from a Republican Party that is still united against anything he tries to do but also from the likes of Manchin. All this underlines the lack of and the need for a leftwing entity that is more like a party than an interlocking virtual directorate of independent organizing committees as in the traditional Mobilization model. I'm all for "We Are the 99%," but the frankly destructive and--let's face it--dumbassed reflexive Occupationism on display in Portland--needs to be got rid of before the FBI do it their way. The best way for that to happen would be for a superior form of organization on the left to replace it. If that ever took hold, the necessary basic discipline might be enforced on those who continued to operate de facto as counter-revolutionaries. But the hope would lie in a better bandwagon attracting better musicians, so to speak, and people wanting to get on board because they agree that a more disciplined form of leftism will get better results. Still a Movement initially, rather than a CPUSA-style United Front--indeed, where are the strong organizations that could unite anyway?--but crucial steps closer to a mass party. But I am getting ahead of myself again.
