Hello Marv: I am not surprised at your overall response of course, and no doubt you were not by my own.
I am however surprised at this: "whatever our present differences -say, over Ukraine - if we worked at it we could hope to narrow them." So I confess I had not appreciated any such divergence. Although there may have been a differing emphasis as we apparently both had noted (1) in the chain of events and our responses as below. But you may have placed more emphasis on (1). (1) the NATO provocations before the invasion of Ukraine. For my part I had noted this but not excused the Russian invasion. (2) The actual invasion - I had unequivocally condemned this as did most of the non-pro-Chinese and non-pro-Putin - left forces. (3) I had classified this as a part of a growing trend to a later new inter-imperialist war setting up the USA and Western allies against a coalition of new imperialist forces of Russian and China. Presumably the "present differences" revolve round (3) and the classification of China, on which we do disagree. Is that what you are alluding to?
