That's not my takeaway. RKOB is obviously much closer to the struggle than I
am. Particularly Yossi. I greatly respect that. But in my humble opinion, what
they have been writing about Gaza is not consistent with the Marxist tradition.
It is consistent with a tendency in Marxist-oriented activist groups, however,
so I welcome their posting on the marxmail list and think we need debate rather
than disparagement.
What is missing in Gaza, I think, is the development of the masses towards
class consciousness, and this requires democratically-functioning
organizations, among other things. The Gazan's struggle has been completely
decided by a small clique that has dictatorial control of the government and
who command of a formidable military organization, relative to the Palestinian
population but not relative to Israel. To the extent that the masses are
organized in Gaza, it seems to me, it's as part of the Hamas state structure or
in a military chain of command, which operated independently in 10/7 of the
reactionary Gulf states that fund Hamas, and to disastrous results when they
miscalculated the support they could expect from their allies region.
That's my take, for what it's worth. I'm no expert here but merely paraphrase
the experts whom I select to study and am persuaded to believe. Hopefully my
ideology is not trumping reality.
