Israel has not suffered some historic defeat, as some have claimed, but I understand why some Palestinians and supporters are saying they did. What is clear is that they failed to ethnically cleanse Gaza, so it was a defeat for their immediate goal. They committed acts of mass barbarism but Palestinian resistance was not crushed.
The problem is, peaceful Palestinian resistance is met with snipers. So what choices do they have? Wait for the great Arab revolution to save them? In New Zealand we're still promoting BDS and the Palestinian right to resist and to return. We're putting pressure on our government to expelled the Israeli ambassador etc. But in Palestine they have few choices. It's easy for us to criticise their strategy but I ask again, what choice do they have? In the 15 years before Oct 7 2023, 20 times as many Palestinians as Israelis were killed.
