*Inter-Imperialist Tensions Rise between Japan and China*
/Statement by the RCIT, 18 November 2025/
1.Sanae Takaichi, the new right-wing Japanese Prime Minister, stated in
a speech in parliament on 7 November that Japan could join a war against
China if Beijing attacks Taiwan. She said that if an emergency in Taiwan
involved “/warships and the use of force, then that could constitute a
situation threatening [Japan’s] survival, whichever way you look at it.
(…) The so-called Taiwan contingency has become so serious that we have
to anticipate a worst-case scenario./” A few days later she claimed that
her remarks were “/in line with conventional government views,/”
referring to a 2014 reinterpretation of the Japanese constitution and
the Legislation for Peace and Security, which was passed in September
2015 and which permits the government to mobilize the army and use force
in such an “/existential situation/”, even if it is not directly under
attack.
