Hi Marv, thanks for posting this. It appears to be more an 'abstract' of a longer paper. It is accurate but too much is written in this paper on their "SMR" and "Gen IV" advanced reactors that warrants it, IMO. The fact that China is right now building 35 "Gen III" reactors (over 1,000 MWs each) is really the news here (half of all those being constructed globally). The real overview is the World Nuclear Association "country" description for China here if one want a fuller understanding of their tech and development:

The essay notes that "China's nuclear industry is now fully vertically integrated". That is something the U.S. and France used be as well before Chernobyl. The essay fails to mention that Russia achieved this well before China. Russia does this with a full "turn key" projects from training, to financing, to equity stakes in the plants, to all component manufacturing, to construction, site preparation, fueling and used fuel processing. Russia is also the largest exporter of nuclear power plants, building four reactors each in Egypt and Turkey, 2 to 6 in India, 4 in China, 2 in Hungry, and other places. China is quite behind both S. Korea and Russia in exports. The article is correct that they are increasingly marketing their reactors but those two other countries are way ahead of China. In fact in the U.S. based Westinghouse Nuclear (though actually owned by British and Canadian multi-nationals) has more sold overseas than China.
