Generally I don't mind folks raising it. On the other hand, there is no way the present composition of activists (community and socialists) who come out to confront ICE could ever get their act together in any organized type militia. If they did, at this point, they'd be wiped out/arrested/destroyed by far better organized forces of the State. So such calls are generally "feel good" calls but with little or no consequence.
I was involved in talks about this in the John Brown Gun Clubs (and similar ones 7 or 8 years ago). Of course they went no where. A real "militia" requires an inordinate amount of organization and homogeneity in fire arms, which is both expensive and...provocative. The last term I use carefully because any such confrontation at this point as John suggests, would mean the immediate implementation of the Insurrection Act. Wanna guess who'd win? I don't. I wrote a paper on how to organize a real militia and not the cosplay ones organized by some student Maoist groups in Texas and Missouri back then. Lastly, at least in terms of the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), they were NOT pacifists. Their strategy was non-violance. But they were heavily armed with latest in military firearms, racked at their headquarters in order to defend themselves in the face of the KKK.
