Rather than glossing over Noam Chomsky's friendship with Epstein, I think it better to view that relationship in context with other behavior of Chomsky over the decades. We all remember that general election after general election the Dems had no one more effective at getting out the vote (at least among the liberal left) than Noam. In certain instances it was rather absurd. For instance, we were told by him in 1996 to vote for Bill Clinton otherwise Bob Dole's fascists would take over. I don't see how he could have said such a thing with a straight face.
I fully respect the shock and deference that folks like Jeffry St Clair have shown for Chomsky (in yesterdays CounterPunch) but it is times like this that I really miss his late colleague Alex Cockburn.
