Anthony Boynton's note made an interesting leap from the information provided by track aipac, because his position is not their position at all. On the contrary, they endorse dozens of Democrats <https://www.trackaipac.com/endorsements>. In reality, almost all the anti-capitalists who opposed supporting Harris in 2024 engaged in a bit of sleight of hand. They took that position on one public grounds and one alone - Democratic Party's support for Israel's genocide against Gaza. Frankly, that was a bit of opportunism because almost all of them, Anthony Boynton included, oppose voting for any Democrats on general principle and have done so for decades. They should have explained that in 2024.
Not only that, but with no exceptions that I know of, they failed to equally attack the Republicans and Trump in particular. None of them that I know of explained how Trump was going to attack democratic rights in general and the rights of Muslims and those who protested against Israel in particular. Yes, of course the Democrats have done the same, but anybody who denies that what Trump has done is at a whole new level is simply living in an alternate reality. In the US at that time, there was even the rise of Muslims for Trump. Who among the anti-Democrat left even opposed that tendency? Who among the anti-Democrat left explained the serious threat that Trump and MAGA posed even while they campaigned against Harris? No, the reality of their position was exposed by Kshama Sawant, who openly stated the position by calling for "punishing the Democrats" by denying them a win in predominantly Muslim voting districts. In other words, she was calling for electing Trump. There is no other way to put it, yet who among the socialist left opposed her position? Today, that same left has doubled down on its refusal to recognize reality in 2024. Take Anthony Boynton's post, which implies that it doesn't matter if a Republican gets elected governor of California. Because of the ridiculous primary system in California, it's possible that Californians will face a choice of two Republican candidates for governor in the general election. Both of those candidates are 2020 election deniers. That means that both of them will act to repress future elections here in California, including in 2028. Anthony and other socialists may claim that there is no difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. That means they are saying there is no difference between bourgeois democracy and outright authoritarian dictatorship. They should talk with black people in the South who fought in the Civil Rights movement, women life freedom protesters in Iran, those who lived under apartheid in South Africa... In fact, they should talk with Ukrainians who are fighting to stop their country from being overrun by a far right authoritarian Russian state, even while many of them are bitterly critical of the neoliberal Zelensky!
