I'm pretty hesitant about adding features that aren't really core to the templating part of Mason. Duplicating things found in other systems (like mod_perl or frameworks like Catalyst) seems like a bad direction for Mason, since I'd just as soon see it focus on being the best Perl-in-text templating system it can be, rather than incorporating more framework features, especially if those features are already available through things Mason works well with (again, like mod_perl and/or Catalyst).
