I've read John Hardin's revised VPN HOWTO Draft, and I tried adding the VPN
patch to my kernel. I made a point of re-installing my kernel source RPM
(Red Hat 5.2, kernel 2.0.36) so as to start off with a clean kernel.
When I downloaded the patch, I got a gunzipped file, not a gzipped file. So
when I went to apply it, renamed the file. I then modified the command line:
[root@server linux]# cat ip_masq_vpn_patch | patch -p0 -l > vpn-patch.log
Suggestion: encourage readers to grab the command lines via the clipboard,
rather than re-type them.
Suggestion: add the results from a sucessful patch run to the HOWTO. Here
is mine:
[root@server linux]# cat vpn-patch.log
patching file `Documentation/Configure.help'
patching file `include/net/ip_masq.h'
patching file `net/ipv4/Config.in'
patching file `net/ipv4/ip_masq.c'
Hunk #28 succeeded at 3250 (offset -3 lines).
[root@server linux]#
Suggestion: references to the file name should HREF a fully qualified URL
so the reader can click on it and obtain it.
Suggestion: encourage the reader to save off his .config file before and
after configuring the kernel for VPN support. I saved it as .ipmasq.config
and .ipmasq.pptp.config, respectively.
