Run "ipfwadm -Mln" to see what masquerade ports are in use during the
problem period. Also run "dmesg" to see what the kernel is reporting at
that time (any error messages?).
It sounds like you run out of masq ports (there are 4096 of them by
default). If that's the problem, it means you have some client that's
beating on your masq machine, sending lots of traffic. GameSpy is one
that I've heard of that does this.
You can combat this by killing off the offending client, or by lowering
your masq timeouts for that protocol, so that the ports time out sooner
and can be re-used.
