Or put Linux on your Sun SPARC machine ... any sun4c/sun4m/sun4u
machine[1] should run a 2.0 or better kernel and support masq.
Indyramp's mailserver (which hosts this list) runs Linux 2.0.35 on a
SPARCclassic and has been up and running for nearly four months now
without a hiccup. It's not doing masq, but it could :-)
A SPARCstation 2 or equivalent is enough power to masq/route an ADSL
connection to an Ethernet network, so even if you can't wipe out Solaris
on your SPARC machine, you could get a usable system for around $50 and
put Linux (RedHat or Debian, I believe) on it and get all the benefits.

Another alternative, which would belong on another mailing list, would be
the "ipf" or "ipfilter" system that ships with {Free|Net|Open}BSD and is
available for Solaris 2.3-7, SunOS 4.1.[1-4], BSD/OS, Irix, and Linux 2.0.
Go to http://cheops.anu.edu.au/~avalon/ip-filter.html for information.
There's a searchable archive of that product's mailing list available
there as well[2]. ipfilter supports typical firewall, nat, logging, and
statistics. I have built, installed, and run it as a test on Solaris 2.6
on a SPARCstation IPX in the past year, and it does appear to work fairly
well.

[1] ..with possible exception of the SPARCstation 5-170... it was lagging
in support for a while... might be better now, I don't know.
[2] This list can't support ipfilter or other non-masq technology. If you
get masq running on linux on sparc or other platforms, we'll be glad to
help you. Otherwise, there are other lists we'll have to point you toward.
