Can you be a little more specific regarding 'almost real time?' I update data from a remote meteorological research sites. Data streams to the computer every minute and is dumped to plain ascii files. I use pyinotify to watch for the new files to arrive, then execute my analysis/plotting routines which produce plots; The plots are then pushed to our webserver.
