First, if you are using runopf_w_res(), you are solving a deterministic problem
… i.e. you must specify a capacity (PMAX) for your RES units that is/will be
available with certainty. If this is not what you want, maybe you want to look
into the stochastic approach taken by MOST, which is by nature much more
complicated, unfortunately.

To your first question, the max reserves for RES are whatever you decide. They
are inputs to the problem. In any case, the dispatch plus reserves provided by
any unit, CG or RES, will be less than the PMAX, which is where you specify the
available capacity for RES.

On the second question, it is co-optimizing energy and reserves (not
dispatching energy first), so the optimal solution will depend on both energy
and reserve costs and their interactions with the reserve requirements you’ve
specified. It sounds to me like, either your reserve requirements do not
include alternative ways to provide those reserves, or those alternatives are
more expensive

Hope this helps,

   Ray

Dear Dir , you query is a good topic also , the reserve should be intermittent
within the the specified limits in case of RES, the stochastic optimization can
give only the optimal amount either in high amount or in less amount depending
on the introduced data of RES sources...

Hello all,
I am working on joint energy and reserve market optimization for 24 hours on
IEEE 30 bus system. . In my case I am using both conventional generators(CGs)
and RES generation(wind and solar). For CGs, i have fixed the maximum reserves
(max reserve=capacity available-dispatched during peak load) but I am doubt
what will be the maximum reserve in case of RES. While performing opf using
"runopf_w_res" i am not getting satisfactory results. I am having following
queries:
1. what will be the maximum reserve in case of RES as they are variable.
2. In case1, I have taken that RES will participate in Energy market (EM)only
in that case, I am getting that maximum RES is dispatched in EM (due to low
cost). Whereas, in case 2 when RES is participating in both energy and reserve
market (RM)( I am taking maximum reserve of RES as their installed capacity) ,
the energy dispatched in energy market is different than in case1 i.e. limited
RES energy is dispatched in EM and most of it is dispatched in RM. What is the
reason, as the energy market is dispatched first then maximum power of RES
should be dispatched in that and the remaining power of RES should be
dispatched in RM.
Please give your valuable suggestions regarding the same.
Thanks in advance.
