Why do you need to compile Torque as 64 bit? Since Torque does not
directly affect the execution of parallel code, it doesn't
necessarily make sense to compile it as 64 bit. Plus, the observation
you made of backwards compatibility with 32 bit machines is very valid.

still exist (and are hard to kill off) but what flag is needed for
configure to make Torque compile 32 bits in the Makefile?
