<personal opinion>
I think Mandrake has the easiest installer and is targeted for GUI users.
Of the people I know that use Linux on Apple hardware for at-home use, they
prefer Mandrake to YDL. I prefer YDL because the RPM dependancies don't
require the GUI to be installed, and you can re-compile RedHat RPMs for YDL
easily. We run RH on 3 Intel servers and YDL on 2 Macs, so keeping the RPM
versions the same on all of them is a _good thing_.

128 MB RAM is a minimum to use Linux with a GUI. You _can_ run Linux with a
GUI in less, but snappy is not an adjective I would use.

I do not know if Mandrake is compiled with flags specifically for G3 or
better, or if the installer simply does not work with older machines. My
knowledge of Mandrake is from the 8.x series, it installed and worked fine
on 7300/8500/9600.

OS X is too bloated for this machine, and you are stuck with 10.1.x because
10.2.x requires a G3 or better processor in order to boot.

Others on the list will insert NetBSD remarks here.
