Some SCSI info up front: My CD is id 3 and the first device on the chain, the Zip is id 5 and would be 2nd on the chain (disconnected ATM), and there are two more positions on the internal chain I want to use for hard drives.
Try removing the Zip drive, I have had problems with SCSI Zip drives on internal cables.
Second would be to replace the ribbon cable, I have had the original Apple cables flip out on me as well.
