my bad, though the developer note says otherwise, the cooling control info for the g5 
is
documented in the darwin source code.  this is a very good thing!  now all i need to 
do is
win the lottery, which isn't likely since i don't play it....  the lottery is a tax for
people who don't understand math. ;)
